Hello, and welcome back to my blog!
Just wanted to show off my new logo design and display it proudly!
After reading up on good logo design, I realized that my previous logo was not very marketing-savvy. I knew it was a rushed job going in (had not yet had time to make a permanent logo, yet), but I had not realized just how bad it probably was. I had not realized how much thought I had to put into my logo, at all! So, after reading this book, I decided to design a new logo, and this was the final edit (at least for the moment). You’ll notice that my site icon is the same logo, but without the text.
For anyone who is curious, this was my creative process:
After sketching the image in Adobe Photoshop, I then imported it into Adobe Illustrator and used the “Live Trace” and “Expand” options to obtain the lineart and break it up for coloring. The text was made in Illustrator using the pen tool.
I chose purple as the primary color because, not only is it my favorite color, but it also represents power, nobility, luxury, and ambition and combines the stability of blue with the passion of red. I chose blue-green as my accent color (green signifies growth, harmony, and freshness, and blue says “intelligence, faith, truth, confidence, and loyalty”), and then white as my text color because it will be visible on most every background as well as symbolizing purity, safety, and cleanliness.
As far as the iconography goes, I chose to draw a classically-dressed woman sitting on a crescent moon and holding a star for several reasons.
- I am a woman.
- I mentally associate with the “classical” and “old-fashioned” concepts of solidarity, loyalty, congeniality, politeness, and honest business practice more than the cutthroat idea of “anything goes as long as it gets me ahead”.
- I have her holding a star to signify that she is reaching for lofty goals, but they are within her reach.
- She is sitting on the moon to symbolize the strides she has taken to reach this point.
- The text is purposefully chunky and uneven to express that this is a creative endeavor, and that although creativity can be classy and sleek, it can also be fun and unusual.
I may update this in the future, but given how much thought I put into it, I hope that it goes over well. Please let me know what you think!
Thanks for reading!
Later,
Amanda
